Dr.Jagriti Luthra Prasanna, the lead vocalist and the founder of Roohani Sisters founded this group 16 years back to promote Bhakti- love for the Divine through her music. She along with Sonakshi Jain, Yashna Dewani, Janvi , Madhumita Roy , Kashish and - the supporting vocalist have worked tirelessly towards nurturing the concept of Sufi Jugalbandi. Dr. Jagriti performs Sufiyana Qalams, Qawwali, Kaafi and Ghazals in traditional style along with her own improvisations and variations, merging it with the style of Indian ClassicaI Music.

Roohani Sisters truely believe in the Sufi Tradition of Music. The ability to create that unique connect with the audience has always been a great differentiator. She writes and composes her own Sufi Qalams that have been a great hit with the listeners.

Dr.Jagriti Luthra Prasanna is a doctorate ( PHD degree holder) in Sufi Music from Delhi University. She has written her thesis on the work and contribution of Lt. Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan to Sufi Music. The ability to give mesmerizing and soulful performances has been passed on to her by her gurus and elders who believed in her idea of spreading the message of Sufi Saints.

“Dr. Jagriti” also presented a project - Roohaniyat in collaboration with the very renowned kathak exponent Vidha lal .

Dr. Jagriti presents Roohani Sisters Collective at Prestigious venues, festivals and Sufiyana Concerts . Her main aim is to promote Women Empowerment through Bhakti Sangeet.

She works very closely with Wow Soul Power Charitable Trust where she took Workshops , lecture demonstration about Sufi Music, motivates and inspires girls to take up Sufi music as well as work towards nourishing the great Indian culture and tradition.

Dr. Jagriti Luthra Prasanna has taken her basic Raag dari Taleem under Mrs. Ketaki Banerjee from Kirana Gharana. She has also learnt Indian classical music from Shri. Ritesh Mishra and his father Padma Bhushan Pt. Rajan and Sajan Mishra JI of the Banaras Gharana. She is also a sincere disciple of Ustaad Sakhawat Hussain, Grandson of Padma Bhushan Ustaad Mushtaq Hussain Khan of Rampur-Sahaswan gharana from whom she learnt the technicalities of Sufi and Ghazal Gayaki.

Additionally, Roohani Sisters perform different forms of music such as Nirgun Bhakti Sangeet and Sugam Bhakti Sangeet. Sugam Bhakti Sangeet like Guru Bhajans, Krishna Bhajans, Shiv Bhajans and Devi Bhajans which combines their classicism and modernity in right balance.

Roohani Sisters rendered many poetry accredited to Kabir, Ramdas and Mirabai - the medieval Indian saint to which most of them are self- attribute. There poetries emphasize the transitory nature of life, non-attachment to the mundane, the inevitability of death, and salvation through devotion. They performed Nirgun Bhakti Sangeet at its excellence. This form of worship was propagated by Nirgun saints through their writings and songs by breaking away the oppressive caste and gender hierarchy associated with temple worship of icons.

Devotional music is their specialty. Coming from a Hindu upbringing they are also acknowledge that music has no boundaries. That is why their aim to maintain a balance and perfect blend of compositions consisting of different genres of music comprising Bhajans and Sufi renditions. Their collaboration with Sanskar TV and Divya Channel are a testament to our passion towards performing different forms of music.

The founder and the lead vocalist Dr. Jagriti female Sufiyana project - “Roohani Sisters” has performed at various prestigious stages in India as well as in abroad like Dada Saheb Phalke International Film Festival, Wajid Ali Shah Festival, Jahan e Khusrau, Dilli Durbaar, Sahitya Aajtak, Jashne-e-Adab, International Sufi and Folk Festivals,(Chittagong Bangladesh), Delhi International Arts Festival, H C L concert series , Kadambari Rangmanch for Women and Child Welfare Program, Lokrang, Peer Parai Jane Re (AROHAN) organised by Sangeet Natak Academy , HSCC Foundation at Bharat Mandapam etc. and also has given interviews for various channels like Doordarshan, NDTV Imagine, Aaj Tak, Pragya, Focus, R TV Bangladesh, Total Bhakti, News18, sanskar etc.
